Crafting leather relics into wearable paintings – Skin is collections of hand restored and painted leather garments. The process of restoring and hand painting layer by layer onto second-hand leather is lengthy and intensive. Skin shows how precious and long-lasting natural leather is as a material by salvaging old damaged leather into meticulously painted artworks. This is a response to the overproduction of plastic based faux leather, often greenwashed as ‘vegan’ or a positive alternative to natural leather which does not biodegrade and is not as durable, restorable or valuable as real leather.
